Troops of Operation MESA under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have stopped a bandits’ attack in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Nineteen suspects were neutralized during the operation.

The attack happened around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.

According to Captain Babatunde Zubairu on Monday, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops acted on a tip-off and moved quickly to engage the attackers.

He said the soldiers, supported by other security agencies, exchanged fire with the bandits and forced them out of the community.

The bandits arrived on motorcycles and sustained heavy losses during the encounter.

The troops recovered several motorcycles and two mobile phones from the scene.

Zubairu confirmed that two soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives in the operation.

He said more operations are ongoing to protect nearby communities often targeted by cattle rustlers.

The Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, assured residents that the Army remains committed to maintaining peace and security in Kano State.

He urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
