President Bola Tinubu has ordered that police officers currently guarding VIPs be pulled from those duties to focus on regular police work.

From now on, VIPs who need protection will have to request personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

With few officers in many areas, especially remote communities, Tinubu wants more police on the streets to protect the public.

The directive came after a Sunday meeting in Abuja with the heads of the army, air force, police, and DSS.

The meeting included Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and DSS Director-General Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
