President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons across the country.

The directive was issued during a security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, the president directed police authorities to redeploy officers back to core policing duties.

The statement adds that VIPs who need security protection will now request armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

President Tinubu said many communities, especially in remote areas, do not have enough police officers to protect residents.

He noted that the shortage of officers has made policing difficult in several parts of the country.

The president said the new directive aims to increase police presence and improve public safety.

He also approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers to boost manpower.

The federal government is working with state governments to upgrade police training facilities nationwide.

The presidency says the reforms will enhance police readiness and strengthen national security.

The meeting was attended by Lt. General Waidi Shaibu, chief of army staff; Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, chief of air staff; Kayode Egbetokun, inspector general of police; and Tosin Adeola Ajayi, director-general of the Department of State Services.
