President Bola Tinubu met today at the State House with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa to address escalating violence in Nigeria’s central region.

The closed-door session prioritised security challenges in Benue and Plateau states, where recent attacks have claimed dozens of lives and sparked widespread alarm.

Tinubu, who returned Monday night after a 19-day trip to France and the United Kingdom, faced mounting criticism over his absence as deadly raids and abductions surged.

Opposition figures—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—have decried the president’s prolonged stay overseas “as Nigeria bleeds.”

Since April began, Plateau communities have endured frequent killings, while Benue recorded a particularly brutal assault on April 18 in Ukum and Logo LGAs, leaving over 50 people dead.

With these figures in mind, the president’s meeting seeks to coordinate a rapid response and strengthen federal support for local security forces.
