President Bola Tinubu has felicitated with the victors of Saturday’s polls in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states, calling on them to regard their mandates as a “sacred trust” and discharge their duties with humility and patriotism.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the manner in which the elections were conducted.

The polls involved chairmanship and councillorship seats across the FCT’s six area councils — Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abaji — alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

Based on results announced so far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) prevailed in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC and Bwari Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in Gwagwalada. In Rivers State, the APC captured both state assembly seats contested in the by-elections.

President Tinubu further praised the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what he termed notable accomplishments in the territory, noting that his administration’s performance translated into political gains for the APC.

The President congratulated the APC national leadership, together with party leaders and members in Kano and Rivers states, on the party’s electoral triumphs.

He commended INEC, security agencies and voters for ensuring a peaceful exercise, and applauded the candidates for showing courage and discipline, stressing that democracy flourishes through participation and fair competition.

Tinubu stated that the smooth conduct of the elections reinforces Nigeria’s democratic structures and encouraged INEC to keep refining its procedures to guarantee even more credible polls.
