The Kano State Police Command has dismantled two armed robbery syndicates operating across northern Nigeria, arresting six suspects and recovering four stolen vehicles in a coordinated series of operations.
In a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police disclosed that the breakthrough came as a result of actionable intelligence and targeted raids spearheaded by Tactical Teams led by CSP Rabiu Gidado of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
Arrests in Kano, Plateau, and Jigawa
In the first major bust, operatives arrested Saidu Abubakar in Plateau State on May 10, 2025, while he was in possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla (2016 model).
The vehicle belonged to Nura Abdullahi of Naibawa Quarters, Kano, and had been reported stolen on May 2.
Police said Abubakar confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in car theft and smuggling stolen vehicles across state lines.
In a separate operation, three suspects were apprehended in connection with a violent armed robbery that occurred at Ladanai Quarters, Hotoro on May 1, 2025.
According to the statement, the suspects — Abdulaziz Usman (27) and Umar Abubakar (22) from Jigawa State, along with Sunusi Abdullahi (28) from Karaye, Kano — allegedly broke into a residence at around 3:30 a.m. wielding knives and cutlasses.
They reportedly stole a black Toyota Yaris, three laptops, an iPhone 11, ₦102,000 in cash, and other valuables.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Umar Aliyu in Kaduna State, identified as a receiver of the stolen goods.
Police recovered both the Toyota Yaris and an unregistered Peugeot 406 linked to a separate robbery in Bechi Quarters, Kumbotso LGA.
Concrete mixer recovered in Kano
In another development on May 16, detectives intercepted Ibrahim Isa, a suspect from Dorawa Zawan in Plateau State, as he attempted to sell a Howo concrete mixer (ash-colored) in Kano.
Investigations revealed the heavy-duty vehicle had been stolen the same day from Kazaure LGA, Jigawa State.
All suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Police say they will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probes.
