The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
This decision was reached on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The resolution followed the adoption of recommendations by the National Zoning Committee, chaired by Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
The zoning committee’s report was formally presented to NEC and was unanimously ratified by members present.
Communiqué from NEC meeting
After the meeting, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, read out the communiqué to journalists and members of the party.
He explained that NEC resolved to sustain the rotational zoning arrangement between the North and the South.
The move, according to him, is aimed at strengthening the party’s unity and fairness in leadership distribution.
Why presidency goes South
Ologunagba noted that the zoning decision was influenced by the forthcoming national convention of the PDP.
The convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, will see the emergence of a new National Chairman from the North.
As a result, the NEC agreed that the presidency should be zoned to the South to maintain balance between the two regions.
