Residents of Faransi village in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State were left in fear after a member of the civilian Joint Task Force, popularly known as Yansakai, allegedly opened fire inside a mosque.
The gunfire left a young man, identified as Bawa Kiri, with serious injuries after he was hit by a bullet during the incident.
According to reports, the victim’s father, Kiri Nyako, immediately raised alarm and reported the matter to troops of 1 Brigade Team stationed at Unashi.
Military response and medical treatment
Following the report, soldiers launched a manhunt to track down and arrest the suspected Yansakai member who is said to be responsible for the shooting.
Meanwhile, the injured youth was rushed to Ribah General Hospital in Zuru Local Government Area where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Doctors at the hospital confirmed that Bawa Kiri is undergoing treatment as efforts are being made to stabilize his condition.
Ongoing investigation
Security sources revealed that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, adding that “details of the incident are still sketchy.”
Troops and local authorities are working closely to uncover the circumstances that led to the attack.
The case has raised fresh concerns about the activities of vigilante groups in Kebbi State and their impact on community safety.
