The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Local Government Inspectors across the country to strengthen efficiency, discipline, and integrity in their duties.
He said these values shape public trust in the Scheme and are vital to its success at the grassroots level.
General Nafiu made the call during a capacity-building workshop for Local Government Inspectors held in Abuja, on Monday.
He explained that NYSC’s investment in the Integrated System (NIS), Biometric Clearance Mechanism, and other digital platforms aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and service delivery.
“The success of every innovation we introduce depends on your willingness to adopt, adapt, and apply digital tools with discipline and purpose,” the DG said.
He added that the workshop was not just a training exercise but an opportunity for officers to rethink how they perform their duties using technology as a tool for accountability and performance.
“As we strengthen digital operations, I urge you to embrace professionalism, develop digital skills, and stay adaptable to new systems,” he stated.
General Nafiu urged Inspectors to lead by example, inspire Corps Members, and embody the values of patriotism, honesty, and service.
He commended the resilience of field officers and assured that the Management was taking steps to enhance their efficiency with better operational tools.
In her welcome address, the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Mrs. Aminat Arunah, said the initiative reflected NYSC’s commitment to using technology as a driver of discipline, accountability, and operational efficiency.
She noted that the theme of the workshop, “Capacity Building Initiative: A Pathway to Enhancing Local Government Inspectors’ Efficiency in Corps Members’ Administration Using Digital Tools,” aligned with the Scheme’s focus on improving field operations through technology.
Mrs. Arunah emphasized that NYSC must evolve with global technological trends to remain efficient and relevant.
She added that the success of digital innovations like the NYSC Integrated System and Monthly Biometric Clearance attendance depends largely on the commitment of Local Government Inspectors.
“These initiatives promote informed decisions, reduce delays, and strengthen the integrity of NYSC operations,” she said.
She concluded that NYSC’s digital drive reflects its vision for a tech-savvy workforce capable of sustaining excellence in a fast-changing public service environment.
