The Northern States Governors’ Forum has condemned the suicide attack on a mosque at Gomboru Market in Maiduguri, describing it as a barbaric and cowardly act against innocent worshippers.
The attack occurred on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers when a suspected suicide bomber infiltrated the mosque and detonated an explosive device.
At least five worshippers were killed in the explosion, while no fewer than 35 others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and governor of Gombe State, issued the condemnation on behalf of his colleagues on Thursday.
Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State.
He specifically sympathized with Babagana Umara Zulum, governor of Borno State, as well as families of the victims and those injured in the attack.

He noted that terrorism thrives on fear and division and must be confronted with unity and determination.
The Gombe State governor called for enhanced security measures around places of worship and public spaces, especially during festive periods.
He assured the people of Borno State of the full solidarity and support of Northern governors as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent further attacks.
He prayed for eternal rest for the souls of those who lost their lives and speedy recovery for those injured.
