The Nigerian Army  handed over a newly constructed school comprising two blocks of seven classrooms, a staff room, and a principal’s office, to the Tudun Biri community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The gesture comes nearly a year after the community was accidentally struck by a Nigerian Army drone on December 3, 2023, during the annual Maulud celebration, a tragedy that claimed 85 lives.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, handed over the facility on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

Maj.-Gen. Wase said the school was built as part of the Army’s civil–military relations initiative, noting that education remains a key investment in rebuilding trust and supporting affected communities.

“The Army expects the community to allow their children to attend the school and for the state government to provide teachers and staff to operate it,”
he said.

He added that the goal was to expand access to education in Kaduna State and across the country.

Kaduna Government Pledges Staffing, Quick Deployment

Receiving the school on behalf of the Kaduna State Government, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Sule Shu’aibu, affirmed the government’s readiness to deploy personnel and resources for its smooth operation.

“Governor Uba Sani has assured that the process will be fast-tracked so the children of Tudun Biri can begin benefiting from the facility,”
Dr. Shu’aibu said.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army and pledged continued collaboration to enhance security and development across the state.

The Village Head of Tudun Biri, Balarabe Garba, commended the Army for executing what he described as a “noble project”, assuring that the community would ensure parents enrol their children and make full use of the school.
