The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday engaged residents of Kaduna State as part of its activities marking the 2025 Customer Service Week, designed to promote public awareness, encourage feedback, and enhance preparedness for emergencies.

The week-long observance, themed “Mission Possible,” highlighted NEMA’s dedication to excellence, empathy, and transparency in providing humanitarian assistance to Nigerians affected by disasters and emergencies.

Delivering her remarks, NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by the North-West Zonal Director, Mr. Sani Lokoja, said the event was more than an annual observance—it reaffirmed the agency’s service values and culture.

“As the nation’s apex disaster management agency, our customers are the millions of Nigerians whose lives and livelihoods depend on our efficiency, empathy, and professionalism,” Umar said.

She noted that disasters often occur unexpectedly, stressing that compassion and rapid response are essential in restoring hope.

According to her, the week’s programme featured discussions on quality assurance and compliance in humanitarian service delivery to ensure that relief items reach the most vulnerable people.

‘Commitment to Service Excellence’

Umar praised NEMA personnel, emergency responders, call-centre teams, and partners for their professionalism and perseverance, encouraging them to uphold a service culture grounded in empathy, teamwork, and integrity.

Also speaking, Mr. Sulaiman Muhammad, Head of Operations, NEMA Kaduna Office, said the Customer Service Day offered residents a platform to interact with the agency, assess its operations, and strengthen collaboration in emergency management.

“Disaster management is a shared responsibility,” Muhammad said. “The simulation we conducted today represents a real-life emergency scenario, showing how our team responds to a fire incident—from evacuation to the treatment of casualties by paramedics according to injury severity.”

He reaffirmed that NEMA operates around the clock to handle emergencies across Kaduna State, ensuring the protection of lives and property.

Muhammad urged residents to stay alert and promptly report any emergency to NEMA or the appropriate authorities for immediate response.

The event featured a live disaster simulation, interactive sessions for feedback, and discussions on community involvement in emergency response across the state.
