Self acclaimed ADC National Chairman, Nafi'u Bala

Factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has debunked claims that he resigned from the party, insisting that a letter circulating online to that effect is a forgery.

Bala, who was the ADC’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, had recently declared himself the acting chairman of the party, opposing moves by opposition leaders to adopt the ADC as a coalition platform ahead of the 2027 polls — a move he says violates the party’s constitution.

Shortly after his declaration, a letter dated May 18, 2025, allegedly bearing his resignation from the ADC’s National Working Committee, surfaced online and was widely reported in the media.

But in a statement released on Friday, Bala dismissed the document as fake and politically motivated.

“I am writing to address a matter of utmost importance that has recently surfaced in the public domain — a fabricated letter of resignation purportedly authored by me, Nafiu Bala, dated 18 May 2025,” he said.

“This document, which has been circulated by certain mischievous elements within and outside our party, is entirely false and without merit.”

Bala described the letter as a “malicious fabrication,” noting that it was printed on plain paper with no official insignia — further raising questions about its authenticity.

“The fraudulent resignation letter is presented on plain paper, devoid of any official markings. This blatant difference in presentation further undermines the credibility of the document and highlights the nefarious intentions behind its circulation,” he added.

He also raised concerns over the emergence of new party leaders, questioning whether they met the ADC’s constitutional requirements — including the mandatory one-year financial commitment before assuming a leadership role.

“The Constitution of the African Democratic Congress clearly stipulates that any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must be a member of the party and must have maintained their financial obligations for a minimum of one year prior to their candidacy,” he stated.

“This provision has not been amended, and any claims to the contrary are simply unfounded.”

Bala said any attempt to take over the party through unconstitutional means would be challenged in court.
