Former Kano State governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has debunked reports that he has formally indicated interest in joining another political party.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Kwankwaso described the reports as baseless and misleading.

“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country,” he said.

Kwankwaso: No such submission to any party

The NNPP chieftain made it clear that there was no truth to the claims.

“We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party,” Kwankwaso added.

He further urged Nigerians to be cautious about misinformation, stressing that:

“the public is therefore advised to stay informed of any further information regarding our matter through the established official channels.”

His clarification comes at a time of heightened speculation about his next political move, particularly suggestions that he may realign with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Talks with APC fuel speculation

Reports in suggested that Kwankwaso has been in contact with APC national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, over a possible defection.

Sources within the APC in Kano alleged that Kwankwaso had already sent a letter to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, expressing interest in joining the ruling party.

A source at the APC headquarters in Abuja told Daily Trust that discussions between Kwankwaso and the national chairman had reached “advanced stage,” raising further speculation about his political future.

Kwankwaso’s denial is the latest twist in the unfolding drama, leaving many Nigerians waiting to see whether he will eventually make a formal move.
