Kebbi State Government on Saturday held an interfaith prayer session in Birnin Kebbi, seeking divine intervention over rising security challenges in the state and across the country.

Governor Nasir Idris, who spoke at the event, said the gathering aimed to strengthen unity between Muslims and Christians and to seek lasting peace.

“No state can claim to be 100 per cent peaceful. The issue of security should not be politicised. Those saying Kebbi or Nigeria is not peaceful, or that there is no cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians, are only spreading falsehood,” he said.

He acknowledged that Kebbi had enjoyed relative peace compared to other states but emphasised the need for continuous prayers to sustain harmony and coexistence.

The event, organised by the Ministry for Religious Affairs, brought together Muslim and Christian clerics from all 21 local government areas of the state to pray against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes threatening lives and property.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu; former Chief Judge of Kebbi State, Justice Bala Mairiga; Chairman of the State Council of Ulama, Abubakar Riba; Chairman of the Preaching Board, Umar Malisa; and Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Femi Orofin.

The clerics jointly offered prayers for peace, stability, and divine protection for communities affected by insecurity across Kebbi and Nigeria.
