A personnel of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Yahaya Isma’il Idris, has died after being thrown out of a moving truck in the early hours of Thursday along Maiduguri Road in Kano metropolis.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who posted the report on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. while the 35-year-old officer was on night duty.

Idris had intercepted a truck loaded with goods for a routine inspection and requested the driver to present a waybill.

When the driver failed to provide the document, the officer boarded the vehicle for further investigation.

However, the driver, identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abdulsalam from Fika LGA in Yobe State, allegedly sped off with two other passengers — Tunde Momodu, 31, from Edo State, and Sagir Yusuf, 21, from Bichi LGA, Kano State.

As the truck approached the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, the KAROTA officer was reportedly pushed out of the moving vehicle by the suspects.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
