The District Head of Kabo in Kano State, Alhaji Idris Adamu Dankabo, is dead. He was also the traditional title holder of Sarkin Gabas under the Kano Emirate.
Dankabo, aged 48, died on Thursday night after a fatal motor accident in Kano metropolis.
His death was confirmed in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Kano Emirate Council, “Sanusi Dynasty.”
The late Idris was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo, the founder of the defunct Kabo Air and former Jarma of Kano.
Funeral to be held at Emir’s palace
The deceased is survived by his wife and two children.
The Emirate announced that the funeral prayer will hold today, Friday, at 10 a.m. at the Emir’s palace in Kano, with Emir Sanusi expected to lead the prayer.
The Dankabo family is widely regarded as one of the most influential in Kano, with the late patriarch, Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, remembered for his contributions to aviation, politics, and philanthropy.
Kabo Air, founded in 1980, once operated domestic, regional, and international flights before focusing mainly on charter and Hajj services in later years.
Idris Dankabo’s position as Sarkin Gabas was one of the senior titles in the Kano Emirate, carrying significant cultural and administrative responsibilities.
His death at a relatively young age is seen as a major loss to the traditional institution in Northern Nigeria.
