The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (Contributory Pension Scheme) has accused the state government of withholding their entitlements for the past eight years.
The protest comes as other states, such as Kano, have begun clearing pension arrears and gratuities left behind by previous administrations.
Addressing journalists in Kaduna, the State Secretary of the Union, Idris Dan Asabe Abdullahi, urged Governor Uba Sani to authorize the release of the long-overdue funds. He stressed that the benefits should be paid from contributions workers made during their years of active service.
“The government has turned a blind eye to our suffering. We are not asking for charity — we are only demanding what rightfully belongs to us,” he said.
Dan Asabe lamented that the prolonged delay had caused untold hardship, with many retirees losing their lives as a result. “For eight long years, we have been abandoned. Many of our members are dying in silence because their pensions and gratuities remain unpaid,” he added.
He further noted that the union had exhausted all legitimate avenues to seek redress but had achieved no results.
The Kaduna State Pension Bureau had not commented on the matter at the time of filing this report.
