The Kaduna State Government has unveiled plans to train and graduate at least 32,000 learners every year through the newly established Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development.
The Institute, inaugurated in June by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, operates campuses in Rigachikun, Soba, and Zangon Kataf, each fitted with modern workshops and facilities.
It is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers 14 trade areas under the Nigeria Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
The programs cover key sectors including construction, ICT, hospitality, energy, and the creative industry, with specialisations such as painting and decoration, masonry, plumbing, welding, electrical installation, refrigeration and air conditioning, solar installation, mechatronics, catering, and fashion design.
According to officials, 80 percent of training is hands-on, with learners spending most of their time in workshops or workplace settings. Courses range from short three-month certificates to six- and twelve-month programs leading to NSQ qualifications at Levels 2–4.
Governor Uba Sani vision for youth
Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said the initiative reflects Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic growth.
“This Institute is a bold step to prepare young people for employment and entrepreneurship,” he stated.
Provost of the Institute, Malam Husaini Haruna Muhammad, stressed that the model is designed to produce “workplace-ready graduates,” urging citizens especially women, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable youths to enrol.
The State Government disclosed that 16,000 learners will graduate in the first training phase, before scaling up to the annual target of 32,000.
