The Kaduna State Ministry of Environment has attributed the recent flooding in parts of the state during this year’s rainy season to the negligence of residents.

The Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, stated this while addressing journalists, noting that the government has been making efforts to prevent flooding but residents have failed to cooperate.

According to him, the state government had long stopped allocating lands close to riverbanks, yet some individuals still purchase such plots and erect structures without official approval.

He explained that prior to the onset of the rainy season, forecasts had already predicted the likelihood of flooding.

In response, the government embarked on awareness campaigns to educate communities on precautionary measures, but many ignored the warnings.

Buba reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting citizens from the dangers of flooding.

Just last week, heavy rainfall that lasted three consecutive days led to flooding in several communities across Kaduna State.
