Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Provost of Police Mobile Force 1 (MOPOL) in Kaduna, DSP Aliyu Adejembi, and his team to report to Force Headquarters for interrogation.
The order follows the emergence of a viral video showing officers allegedly receiving N5,000 cash handouts from a group of Chinese nationals.
The video, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, shows uniformed police officers queuing to collect money in what appears to be a casual setting.
The footage has sparked outrage among Nigerians, raising questions about the integrity and professional conduct of security personnel, especially while on official duty.
According to information gathered by AIT.live, the incident occurred in Lagos, where the MOPOL 1 team from Kaduna had been deployed on a special assignment with the Chinese businesspeople involved.
The nature of their mission or the context of the handout was not made clear, but the visual implications of the act have drawn widespread condemnation.
In response, the Inspector-General issued a formal police wireless communication dated April 15, 2025. The message described the behavior as “professional misconduct” and “discreditable conduct,” and instructed that DSP Adejembi and his team be released to appear before the Inspector-General for an interview.
The directive reads in part:
“Order and directives. Professional misconduct x discreditable conduct x… respectfully convey INGENPOL directive x that you warn and release Provost 1 PMF Kaduna to come along with DSP Aliyu Adejembi and team to interview INGENPOL… unfailingly on Wednesday 16/04/2025 at 0900HRS… Treat as very important.”
The summoned officers are expected to face questioning on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
This development has further ignited debate over ethics in the Nigeria Police Force and the need for stricter enforcement of conduct codes.
