As Kano pilgrims prepare for their journey to Mina on Tuesday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf paid a surprise inspection visit to the central kitchen responsible for feeding Kano State pilgrims under the supervision of the Pilgrims Welfare Board.
The visit, carried out after the preparation of the evening meal, allowed the governor to thoroughly inspect the cooking zones, hygiene practices, food storage, and the preservation of raw ingredients.
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the kitchen’s operations and praised the staff for their hygiene and discipline.
“This inspection is about accountability and welfare,” the governor stated.
“Our pilgrims deserve the best. What they eat affects their health and strength for the Hajj rites. I am impressed by the commitment and professionalism I have seen here.”
During the visit, Governor Yusuf inspected tuwo da miyar kuka—a traditional Hausa dish—alongside meat and side refreshments. In a symbolic gesture, he personally scooped a serving of the food to assess its quality.
He also examined fruits and bottled water provided to support the pilgrims’ health in the hot Saudi climate.
The governor commended Na’ima Idris Kitchen for their efforts and issued a warning against complacency.
“This is a sacred responsibility, and we trust you to uphold it. We cannot afford lapses in food quality or safety, especially during this critical phase of the Hajj,” he added.
The CEO of Na’ima Idris Kitchen, speaking on behalf of the catering team, assured the governor of continued excellence:
“We are honored by your confidence in us, Your Excellency. I assure you, we will not disappoint,” he said.
Governor Yusuf was accompanied by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz, Chairman of the Kano State Hajj Delegation Committee, as well as state commissioners and senior Hajj officials.
His visit reflects the administration’s strong dedication to the safety and spiritual welfare of Kano pilgrims as they prepare to proceed to Mina.
