Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has delivered on his pledge to Mrs. Mabel Ijeoma Duaka, a health worker from Anambra State who has worked in Mafa Local Government for over two decades.
The governor acknowledged her commitment by approving a personal home allocation and offering her son employment at Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri.
On Friday, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, handed over the housing document and appointment letter on behalf of the governor.
The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Education’s conference hall at Musa Usman Secretariat, Maiduguri.
Engr. Wakilbe explained that the move followed Zulum’s instruction during the commissioning of Teachers’ Quarters in Mafa on October 7, 2025.
“At that event, His Excellency directed that Mrs. Mabel Ijeoma Duaka be given a personal housing allocation and that her son be employed at Kashim Ibrahim University,” Wakilbe explained.
“In compliance with that order, I am honored to present the allocation letter of House No. 003, Phase 1, Teachers’ Quarters, Mafa, to Madam Mabel Ijeoma Duaka,” he added.
He further announced that Mrs. Duaka’s son, Abraham Stephen, who graduated with a Second Class Upper in Banking and Finance, had been offered a position as a Graduate Assistant at the university.
In her response, Mrs. Duaka expressed deep appreciation to Governor Zulum for what she described as a transformative gesture.
“I want to thank the governor for this rare kindness,” she said.
“My son graduated four years ago with nothing doing, and suddenly, Governor Zulum employed him,” she added.
“I am short of words, but I promise my son will serve with full dedication and never disappoint the governor,” she assured.
The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the Registrar of Kashim Ibrahim University, and several senior officials from both institutions.
Governor Zulum’s action has been widely commended as a reflection of inclusiveness, fairness, and recognition of selfless service beyond regional and ethnic divides.
