Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has undertook seven major activities during his week-long tour of Northern Borno.
The governor, who began the tour on last week Wednesday, commissioned three key projects: a new Eye and Dental Hospital, a College of Nursing in Monguno Local Government, and a 48-classroom Integrated Islamic Learning College for almajiris in Baga.
He also announced three new interventions, which include free eye surgeries for 5,000 less-privileged persons, a feeding programme for almajiris, and the introduction of Mathematics and English into non-formal Islamic education to align it with the formal system.
The governor further unveiled plans for a ₦3 billion specialist hospital in Monguno, alongside 100 housing units.
The facility, which will serve as a referral center for the region, is to be equipped with modern facilities, including MRI and CT scanners.
Explaining the significance of the newly built College of Nursing, Zulum said it was designed to produce health workers for the region’s expanding medical infrastructure.
He also disclosed that a residency programme for doctors will be introduced in Monguno to address the shortage of medical personnel.
The governor added that the government is close to completing the Baga-Chad water clearance project, expected to create one million jobs.
Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Professor Baba Mallam Gana, commended Zulum’s efforts in transforming the state’s healthcare sector.
He said the administration’s consistent prioritization of high budgetary provisions for health would meet the Abuja Declaration target of 15 percent of total expenditure.
