Former APC National Chairman and ex-Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has criticised the recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, where three people were killed and several women and children were kidnapped.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his former Chief of Staff and ex-Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the attacks as tragic, painful, and deeply distressing, saying they threaten peace and stability in the communities.
He extended condolences to the families and communities affected, noting that the trauma caused by the incidents requires urgent support and a well-coordinated response from all stakeholders.
Ganduje urges proactive security steps
Ganduje called on the Kano State Government to adopt proactive and intelligence-driven security measures, warning that the situation “is assuming a worrisome proportion that cannot be ignored.”
He advised the government to consider security models used during his administration between 2015 and 2023, including strengthened vigilance groups, community policing, intelligence sharing, better coordination among security agencies, and development-focused crime prevention.
According to him, those strategies helped reduce rural banditry, limit urban crime, and maintain relative stability during his tenure.
Ganduje praises other states’ efforts
The former APC chairman commended the governments of Niger, Kwara, Kebbi, and others for what he called their “effective and decisive handling” of similar security challenges, praising their swift actions and community involvement.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for modernising the armed forces and improving national security, saying the ongoing reforms show “strong political will and clear determination to secure the country.”
Ganduje urged residents in affected communities to stay calm but alert and to work closely with security agencies by reporting useful information.
