The Borno State Police Command has apprehended five individuals for illegally possessing 7,871 sachets of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), popularly known as Tamuwa.

According to reports, the supplement is specifically produced for the treatment of malnourished children in the state.

Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, disclosed on Saturday that the arrests were carried out by the Rapid Response Squad Anti-Social Vices Unit under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.

According to him, the first interception occurred on April 12, 2025, when operatives stopped a Sharon Galaxy vehicle at Njimtilo in Maiduguri and discovered 3,314 sachets of Tamuwa, leading to the arrest of two suspects. A second operation on June 9, 2025, at Legacy Estate in Maiduguri resulted in the recovery of 4,557 sachets concealed in a Volkswagen Golf car, with three more suspects taken into custody.

All five suspects have since been arraigned in court for prosecution. The recovered therapeutic food has been handed over to the Borno State Government through the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Baba Mallum Gana, for proper redistribution to targeted beneficiaries.

The command stressed that the operations reflect its commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches the vulnerable groups for whom it is intended.

It further urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines: 08023473293 and 08068075581.
