A sexual harassment allegation, an internal investigation, and the subsequent dismissal of a senior education officer have triggered a debate about fairness and due process in Bauchi State.
Amos Joshua, who served as Principal Assistant Education Officer at Government College Azare, was dismissed after a disciplinary panel found him guilty of misconduct.
However, Joshua maintains his innocence and insists that the process that led to his dismissal was unjust.
A statement by the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission’s spokesperson, Saleh Umar, announced Joshua’s dismissal following its 32nd plenary session held on September 11, 2025.
Commission backs its decision
The Commission said its decision was based on “serious misconduct” in violation of Rule 0327 of the Civil Service Regulations, specifically relating to sexual harassment. It added that several disciplinary panels reviewed the matter before reaching a conclusion.
But Joshua, in an interview tearfully denied the accusations, saying his career and reputation had been destroyed by what he described as an unfair verdict.
“I am innocent. I was not given a fair hearing. They have ruined everything I’ve worked for,” he said.
Attempts to reach the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed, for comment were unsuccessful, as he declined to speak on the issue.
