The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week nationwide warning strike starting midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.
ASUU president, Chris Piwuna, announced the decision at a press conference held at the union’s national secretariat in the University of Abuja.
He said all members across the country had been directed to withdraw their services immediately.
According to Piwuna, the warning strike gives the Federal Government another opportunity to finalize negotiations with the union. He accused the government of failing to show sincerity in addressing ASUU’s long-standing demands.
Gov’t negotiations fail to prevent strike
Piwuna said the 14-day notice earlier issued by ASUU on September 28 had expired without any meaningful progress in talks.
“Compatriots of the press, it goes without saying that there is nothing sufficient on ground to stop the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike,” he said.
