The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume next week, following the completion of repairs and safety checks on a damaged section of track at Asham.

The service was suspended after an incident on August 26, 2025, which disrupted operations along the busy route.

NRC said the downtime allowed for the restoration of infrastructure and rolling stock to “the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.”

Refunds for Passengers

On passenger welfare, the Corporation disclosed that 512 of the 583 passengers on the affected train have already received refunds, while efforts are ongoing to process refunds for the remaining passengers.

In a statement signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC expressed appreciation to passengers, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders for their patience and support during the suspension.

“The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of our esteemed passengers and assures the general public that their safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain our top priority,” the statement added.

The agency noted that further details on the official resumption date and train schedule would be communicated in the coming days.
