Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a large-scale midnight assault on communities in Chibok local government area of Borno State.

The assault occurred after more than 300 terrorists launched coordinated attacks from multiple directions.

The attack began around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday and was countered by troops of the 28 task force brigade who were already on alert after early intelligence reports.

According to the Nigerian Army, soldiers quickly took defensive positions and engaged the insurgents in heavy gunfire that lasted more than two hours, stopping them from entering the communities.

The terrorists fled toward the Azir axis of Sambisa Forest as they attempted to cross the Damboa–Biu main supply route.

To block them, troops of the 25 brigade occupied pre-arranged ambush positions near the Azir Bridge with support from a Nigerian Army unmanned aerial vehicle.

The air component of Operation Hadin Kai also deployed a Super Tucano aircraft for air interdiction, forcing the militants to scatter as troops advanced.

The military confirmed that no personnel or equipment was lost in the encounter.

Exploitation operations are ongoing to pursue the fleeing terrorists and stop them from regrouping.

The Army said it has obtained video footage of the insurgents’ withdrawal, which is now being analyzed for further action.

The Nigerian Army restated its commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining territorial integrity, assuring residents of continued efforts to defeat terrorist threats in the region.
