Former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has resigned as Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, citing zoning concerns within the party.

In a resignation letter dated November 17, 2025, and addressed to BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, Makarfi said it was inappropriate to remain in office after the emergence of Kabiru Turaki, also from the North-West as the new PDP National Chairman at the Ibadan convention.

Makarfi disclosed that he first attempted to resign two months ago via the BoT WhatsApp platform but paused after Wabara urged him to stay until the convention ended.

He maintained that the BoT Secretary and National Chairman should not come from the same geopolitical zone.

“Now that a chairman has emerged from the North-West, where I come from, it is appropriate to give him full space to function,” he wrote.

The former governor said his decision was driven by fairness and the need to maintain leadership balance. He thanked Wabara and other BoT members for their support during his tenure.
