The Kaduna State Police Command has uncovered an alleged child-trafficking network, rescuing 17 children and arresting three suspects connected to the operation.

DSP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

According to Hassan, officers acted promptly on November 12 after receiving reliable intelligence about suspicious movements near the Danmagaji Flyover in Zaria.

Personnel from the Danmagaji Division intercepted the suspects and discovered the minors, who were of various ages.

He revealed that the children were “allegedly being prepared for trafficking to Abuja and other parts of the country and beyond.”

The three arrested suspects whose identities remain withheld, are said to hail from Funtua, Ingawa, and Unguwa Uku in Katsina and Kano States.

Preliminary findings show the children were taken from different communities and were en route to Abuja.

“All the rescued children are in good health and are now under the care of the police command,” Hassan stated.

He added that efforts are ongoing to trace their families and ensure safe reunification.

Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad commended the officers for their rapid response and reiterated that the command maintains a zero-tolerance stance on child trafficking and exploitation. The suspects will be charged upon completion of investigations.

The command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to avoid deceptive promises offering opportunities for children in far-away cities. Communities were also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
