Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in vote buying in different parts of Anambra State.

The suspects were identified as Emeka Ilokasia, who was arrested at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area; Nwachukwu Loretta, apprehended at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area; and Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi village, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

According to the anti-graft agency, the arrests were made during the governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 2.8 million voters will today decide who governs Anambra State for the next four years. The governorship election is the first to be held under the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, who assumed office on October 23.

Many observers have described the election as a major test of INEC’s capacity to conduct a free and fair election and a measure of its commitment to genuine electoral reforms.

INEC confirmed that a total of 2,802,790 registered voters are eligible to participate, including 140,370 newly registered voters spread across the state’s 326 wards.

The EFCC noted that all suspects would be charged to court as soon as ongoing investigations are completed.
