Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the release of ₦2.321bn for the settlement of pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.

The payment covers accrued rights under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and gratuity/death benefits under the old Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

With the latest approval, Kaduna State has now disbursed ₦6.678bn to pensioners in 2025 and a total of ₦13.5bn in the last two years of the present administration.

Commissioner of Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, described the gesture as another demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens.

“Governor Uba Sani places high priority on the welfare of pensioners. Regular and timely payments are essential to easing the hardship of our senior citizens,” he said.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pension Bureau, Ibrahim Balarabe, the new batch of payments will benefit 661 retirees and families across state and local government services.

Out of the total, ₦1.736bnn is earmarked for accrued rights of 511 retirees under the CPS, while ₦585m will go to 315 pensioners and next-of-kin under the DBS.

Balarabe explained that accrued rights for CPS retirees will be credited directly into their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) with their respective Pension Fund Administrators, while those under the DBS will soon be invited for screening and verification before payment.

He added that Governor Sani has consistently emphasized that ensuring dignity for retirees is both a statutory obligation and a moral responsibility of government.

The Pension Bureau noted that the latest approval reaffirms the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of pensioners, upholding their rights, and strengthening trust within the Kaduna workforce.
