Normal operations resumed today on the Kaduna-Abuja rail line as commuters returned to Rigasa Station, weeks after the suspension of services due to a train derailment.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) halted operations on August 26 after four coaches derailed near Asham, Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred on a northbound train, prompted widespread concern over passenger safety and the integrity of the line.
At Rigasa Station this afternoon passengers expressed relief at the resumption of services.
“We rely on this train for safe and quicker travel between Kaduna and Abuja. We just hope such accidents won’t happen again,” said Aliyu Sa’ad, a regular commuter.
Railway officials assured the public that safety measures had been reinforced.
An NRC representative at the station noted that technical checks had been conducted on the tracks and coaches before operations restarted.
The Abuja–Kaduna corridor remains one of Nigeria’s busiest rail routes, providing an alternative to the highway often threatened by insecurity.
