The Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency has pledged stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, in enforcing environmental laws across the state.

The commitment followed a courtesy visit to the NSCDC headquarters in Gusau by the Agency’s Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Zangina Yarin Gusau, who was represented by Permanent Member I, Hon. Sani Mohammed Mayanchi.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Mayanchi said the partnership with the NSCDC would enhance the fight against deforestation, illegal mining, unlawful excavation of sand and radioactive minerals, pollution, and indiscriminate waste disposal  particularly within Gusau metropolis.

He stressed that the role of the NSCDC was vital in supporting the Environmental Mobile Court to ensure offenders face prosecution.

“Our collaboration with NSCDC is a milestone toward protecting Zamfara’s environment. Together, we will enforce compliance, safeguard our natural resources, and ensure a cleaner, greener future for the state,”he said.

The Agency also commended Governor Dauda Lawal for upgrading the former Zamfara State Sanitation Agency (ZESA) into the present Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency, a move it said has enhanced the state’s capacity to protect the environment and prosecute violators.
