President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, on Thursday, held a meeting in Abuja to review the security situation in the state following the deadly attack by bandits on two communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The assault by about 200 armed bandits resulted in the deaths of more than 100 residents of Woro and Nuku communities in the local government, while many houses were equally set on fire.

President Tinubu had earlier directed the deployment of a battalion of soldiers to the affected areas to carry out counter operations codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’.

The governor also on Wednesday night, visited the communities for an on-the-spot evaluation of the situation on ground, accompanied by security chiefs and members of the state cabinet.

At the time of the governor’s visit, 75 of the slain residents had been buried, while the search for other bodies yet to be found was still ongoing.

According to media reports, the violent killings in the communities attracted national and international condemnation.

In a related development, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama and nearby communities.

The deployment, according to the IGP, is intended to restore calm, reinforce security presence, and prevent further incidents of violence.
