A group of young children fishing in a drainage in Maiduguri has helped security operatives uncover a large cache of anti-aircraft live ammunition in Borno State.

The items were discovered in the Bulumkuttu area after the children noticed suspicious objects abandoned in the drainage and alerted nearby authorities.

Security operatives comprising the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force responded to the alert and secured the area.

Recovered items included several rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition and power banks suspected to be intended for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices.

An amateur video clip seen by ICONIC TIMES 24 showed the children being rewarded by security personnel attached to Sector 9 for their vigilance and courage.

The discovery comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Borno State following a recent deadly bomb explosion attributed to Boko Haram insurgents.
