Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum on Thursday spent Christmas with frontline troops of the Nigerian Army’s 68 Battalion in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area.
The visit came amid continued security operations in northern Borno, where military presence remains critical to protecting border communities and sustaining recent resettlement efforts.
For four days before the visit, Zulum toured several locations across northern Borno to assess security measures and support communities returning after years of displacement.
As part of efforts to restore civil authority, the governor spent the night in the newly resettled town of Malam Fatori, engaging community leaders and residents.
Zulum’s presence at the battalion during the Christmas celebration was aimed at boosting the morale of soldiers deployed far from their families under difficult operational conditions.
He commended the officers and men for their commitment and professionalism, noting that their sacrifices have ensured the stability and survival of Malam Fatori.
“Celebrating Christmas with the troops protecting our territorial integrity is not merely ceremonial, but a deliberate effort to stand with you at the point of sacrifice,” Zulum said.
He said the courage of the troops has encouraged the state government to continue supporting security agencies until lasting peace is achieved.
The governor reaffirmed that security remains the top priority of his administration, stressing that development and recovery cannot take place without peace.
He assured the battalion of continued logistical and welfare support from the state government to complement federal efforts.
To mark the festive season, Zulum donated five bulls to the battalion to enable the troops celebrate Christmas within the military base.
The governor also shared a meal with the soldiers, a gesture that drew cheers and renewed morale among the troops.
Many of the soldiers said the visit showed that their sacrifices were recognized and appreciated by the state government.
