The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun construction of a turn-in turn-out connection on the 330kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe transmission line to link the new 330kV Bauchi Transmission Substation to the national grid.

This is according to a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, the commission’s GM, Public affairs.

According to her, the project, which kicked off on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, is scheduled for completion by Saturday, June 14, 2025.

During this five-day window, TCN will route power to Gombe and Biu Transmission Substations through the Dadin-Kowa Hydro Power Plant and the Maiduguri Substation, with additional support from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).

However, Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies will experience a temporary reduction in bulk power supply affecting customers in Bauchi, Gombe, Ashaka, Savannah, Damaturu/Potiskum, and Biu.

Only Yola and Jalingo will face full power outages throughout the project duration.

New transmission tower to enable Jos-Bauchi backup system

As part of the upgrade, TCN is also installing a new transmission tower to increase network resilience.

This setup will enable the Bauchi and Gombe Substations to function as mutual backups, improving fault tolerance and ensuring continuity during maintenance.

She added that additionally, Jos will gain the capability to supply power directly to Bauchi via a 132kV line if the 330kV Gombe route becomes unavailable.

This diversification will enhance grid stability, ensure better emergency response, and improve electricity delivery in the Northeast region.

TCN then reiterated its commitment to upgrading Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure to support a more reliable and stable power system.

The company urged affected customers to remain patient, assuring them that full electricity supply will resume once the project concludes.
