Rangers International Football Club has condemned in strong terms the unsportsmanlike behavior witnessed during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday.
In an official statement released by the club, Rangers expressed deep concern over the incident in which objects were reportedly thrown at their players during the game.
“Rangers International Football Club strongly condemns the unsportsmanlike behavior witnessed during our NPFL fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri, where objects were repeatedly thrown at our players during the match.”
The Enugu-based club described the act as unacceptable, stressing that such conduct has no place in football.
“The safety of players, officials, and fans is paramount, and incidents like this undermine the values of fair play, respect, and unity that the Nigeria Premier Football League represents.”
Rangers reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and sportsmanship, insisting that no act of hostility would silence their spirit or dim their light.
“Rangers International FC will continue to play the game with dignity, courage, and professionalism, upholding the standards that define our great club and our nation’s football heritage.”
The club also called on NPFL authorities to launch a full investigation into the incident and ensure appropriate measures are taken to preserve the integrity and safety of the league.
“We call on the league authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and take decisive action to ensure that the integrity and safety of the game are preserved.”
In a message to their fans, Rangers urged calm and unity, promising to remain steadfast despite the provocation.
“To our supporters everywhere: remain calm, proud, and steadfast. Our light will not be dimmed, our resolve will not be broken.”
The incident has once again raised concerns about crowd control and the need for stricter safety protocols at NPFL venues.
