The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has отменed the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the action as illegal and undemocratic.
In a statement issued from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday, December 30, 2025, the NNPP said the suspension was carried out by some executives in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, in violation of the party’s constitution.
The statement, signed by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, said the NWC condemned the move “in the strongest terms,” stressing that a ward executive has no constitutional power to suspend or remove a state chairman.
“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party condemns the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, stating that such action is misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” the statement said.
The party added that the action amounted to anti-party conduct and breached the rules guiding discipline and leadership hierarchy within the NNPP.
Party backs Dungurawa’s leadership
The NWC praised Dungurawa’s leadership, describing him as hardworking and dutiful, and said his efforts have helped strengthen and grow the party in Kano State.
According to the NNPP, his performance should not be undermined by what it called “questionable actions” taken at the ward level.
The development comes amid rising internal tensions in the party in Kano, with disputes over leadership and speculation about possible political realignments ahead of future elections.
The NNPP leadership urged members to respect the party’s constitution, follow internal democratic processes, and avoid actions that could divide the party.
