The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen defence and military cooperation between both nations.

A statement from Ahmed Dan Wudil, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of State for Defence, said the agreement will include cooperation in security, military training, intelligence sharing, defence production, and joint operations to support long-term security.

The pact was signed for Nigeria by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, while Dr. Khaleed H. Al-Biyari signed on behalf of the Saudi Government.

Deepening bilateral ties

The statement added that the agreement marks an important step in improving relations between the two countries and strengthening joint efforts to address new security threats.

It said the partnership will create more opportunities for shared training, better information exchange, and coordinated action against common challenges.

Officials from both sides expressed commitment to making the cooperation effective and beneficial to their nations.

Hope for improved national security

The Defence Ministry welcomed the development, saying it is confident that ongoing security issues in parts of Nigeria will soon be greatly reduced.

It emphasised that the new partnership will help boost the country’s capacity to tackle insecurity more effectively.

The Ministry added that the agreement shows Nigeria’s readiness to work with global partners to improve peace and stability.
