The Kwara State Government has concluded plans to establish a solar farm aimed at driving socio-economic development across all 16 local government areas through expanded renewable energy infrastructure across the state.

The Commissioner for Energy, AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Wednesday in Erin-Ile, Oyun Local Government Area, during a technical assessment of the proposed solar farm site as part of the state’s renewable energy planning process.

The inspection exercise also featured a courtesy visit to the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I, in line with stakeholder engagement initiatives focused on community participation and project acceptance.

Mr AbdulGaniy restated that the state government had remained consistent in its efforts to deliver a sustainable renewable energy project capable of enhancing power supply statewide, promoting economic growth, supporting industrial expansion and fostering inclusive development across Kwara State.

He explained that the site visit formed part of a broader strategy to identify technically viable and environmentally appropriate locations for the phased deployment of solar energy infrastructure in a sustainable and efficient manner.

The commissioner said the project was designed to strengthen electricity supply, boost economic activities and improve the general quality of life for residents across communities through renewable energy-led development initiatives.

He noted that the inspection followed earlier evaluations conducted by Energy China, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and recent technical surveys carried out by the ministry to support data gathering and statewide energy planning implementation.

Mr AbdulGaniy added that the initiative aligned with collaborative efforts involving the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Energy China and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum on renewable energy policy coordination, technical assistance and funding frameworks at the national level.

He reaffirmed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions as key drivers of socio-economic growth and sustainable development in Kwara State for both present and future generations.

The Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adetona I, commended the initiative, describing electricity as vital to community development, while assuring the government of full support and sustained cooperation throughout the project’s implementation stages.
