The President of Barau FC, Alhaji Shawal Barau I Jibrin, has dismissed widespread reports claiming that a player of the club was killed during Saturday’s Nigeria Premier Football League clash against Katsina United.

In a statement released on Monday, the Barau FC boss clarified that no player died, and that the team’s Ghanaian forward, Nana Abraham, who sustained a deep cut on his neck during the attack, has been treated and discharged from a private hospital in Kano.

The violent incident occurred at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, where home supporters reportedly assaulted Barau FC players and fans, leaving nine people injured — including a player, a technical consultant, a curator, and six supporters.

Alhaji Shawal Barau described the players’ recovery as “welcome news,” urging fans to remain calm and remember that football is meant to unite, not divide.

He commended the Nigeria Premier Football League for the disciplinary actions taken against Katsina United, saying the sanctions would serve as a deterrent to future violence.
