Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has visited the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari on Tuesday to boost the morale of troops on the frontline.

Mairari, a strategic town in Northern Borno, was attacked twice by insurgents in December, but troops successfully repelled both assaults, preventing a major security breach.

The governor praised the officers and men for their bravery, calling them the backbone of peace and stability in the state.

“Your resilience gives our people hope,” he said.

“My administration will continue to provide logistics and welfare support to strengthen your operations. Mairari will not fall.”

He assured that the state government, working with the Federal Government and military high command, would maintain steady supplies of operational logistics, mobility support, and welfare packages for the troops.

Major General Suleiman Saidu Tilawan, Commander of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai, commended the Governor for his proactive support, saying it has improved morale, logistics, and confidence among the soldiers.

The Governor also met residents of Mairari, listening to their concerns and praising their courage, while announcing cash assistance to those affected by the recent attacks.

Earlier, Governor Zulum inspected the dilapidated Federal Government College (FGC) in Monguno, where classrooms, laboratories, and staff quarters remain extensively damaged due to insurgency.

He said the visit was aimed at assessing the damage and planning practical steps for full rehabilitation.

“Education is the foundation of a peaceful and resilient society,” he said.

The Governor promised that his administration would restore the school to provide children from Monguno and neighboring communities with access to quality education.

During the inspection, he met widows taking refuge in abandoned structures, provided them with cash support, and facilitated the admission of some of their qualified daughters into the Monguno College of Nursing and Midwifery to secure their future.
