The Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Haj Ummusalma Isyaka Rabiu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to establish additional polling units and registration centres across Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
Her appeal follows the advocacy campaign on Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in Kano State, Ambassador Abdu Zango.
According to her, the creation of more polling units has become necessary due to the structural expansion of Gwale and its rapidly growing population.
She stressed that improved accessibility to registration centres will guarantee that no eligible citizen is left behind in the democratic process.
Meanwhile, the USIR D2D Political Movement, led by Comrade Yahya Shawai, who issued the statement on her behalf has pledged to lead mobilization efforts to ensure citizens register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Shawai emphasised that registration and collection are critical to effective participation in future elections.
INEC had earlier revealed that more than 367,000 PVCs remain uncollected in Kano State. USIR believes that with aggressive mobilisation, turnout for collection will increase significantly.
“We are confident that with INEC’s cooperation, the commitment of USIR Movement, and the active participation of our citizens, we can strengthen voter registration in Gwale and deepen democratic participation for a stronger Nigeria,” Shawai stated.
