The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated a 17-member Central Security Committee (CSC) to supervise the safety and welfare of Nigerian pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj operations.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, NAHCON Chairman/CEO, Ambassador Ismaila Abba Yusuf, tasked the committee to adopt proactive measures, including strict supervision of departure centres to prevent infiltration by undesirable persons and curb drug-related or human trafficking activities. He emphasized vigilance, integrity, and close collaboration with security and intelligence agencies to protect pilgrims and safeguard Nigeria’s reputation abroad.
Ambassador Yusuf further stressed that the committee must ensure pilgrims obtain the best value for their money while enjoying a safe and orderly Hajj experience.
The newly appointed chairman of the committee, Ambassador Lawal Rabiu, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the team and pledged to work closely with relevant agencies to gather intelligence, coordinate operations, and tackle possible security challenges.
The inauguration represents a decisive move by NAHCON to reinforce security architecture around the 2026 Hajj, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to safe and dignified pilgrimage for all Nigerian participants.
