The Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) has intensified its public safety campaign by sensitising drivers on safe driving practices ahead of the end-of-year festivities, a period often associated with increased road accidents.
The awareness programme, held in Kaduna, brought together key stakeholders in the transport sector.
Representatives of the Commissioner of Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were in attendance, underscoring the importance of multi-agency collaboration in reducing crashes during the busy festive season.
Speaking at the event, the managing director of KASTLEA Mrs. Carla Abdulmalik emphasised the need for responsible driving as traffic volume rises in the coming weeks.
She highlighted speeding, wrongful overtaking, over load, drug abuse and poor vehicle maintenance as major causes of holiday-season crashes.
“This season typically witnesses a surge in road traffic accidents. Drivers must be more vigilant, obey traffic rules, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys,” the agency stated.
Transport Unions Commend Initiative
Representatives of various transport unions also participated in the sensitisation exercise.
They expressed appreciation to KASTLEA for organising the programme and pledged to educate their members on safe driving habits.
“This kind of engagement helps protect both drivers and passengers. We thank KASTLEA for taking the lead,” one union leader said.
The presence of the Police Command and the FRSC was described as a boost to the campaign, as both agencies reiterated their commitment to enforcing safety regulations across Kaduna State during the festive period.
KASTLEA said it will continue to expand its outreach to ensure that road users adopt safe practices throughout the holiday season.
