There was panic at the Federal Secretariat Monday morning as fire broke out in part of the complex.
According to media reports, the fire affected the Head of Civil Service Office section of the Secretariat.
The incident led to the diversion of vehicular traffic from the Federal Court of Appeal vicinity.
At the time of this report, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Meanwhile, this is not the first of its kind in Nigeria’s government infrastructure. Over the years, several government buildings in Abuja and other states have experienced fire outbreaks, often raising questions about safety standards and emergency preparedness.
Analysts have noted that many of these incidents occur in sections housing offices critical to administration and public service operations.
For instance, in 2022, a fire destroyed parts of the National Assembly Secretariat, causing temporary relocation of staff and disrupting legislative activities.
Similarly, in 2020, a fire in the Ministry of Finance building led to the evacuation of personnel and highlighted weaknesses in fire safety compliance in government offices.
Netizens believe such occurrences reveal the need for stronger fire prevention measures and regular safety audits in public facilities.
